Conjunctions are part of a wider group of words which are all devices linking two linguistic elements  in some kind of meaningful relationship. These elements can be individual words or phrases, but more often than not they are clauses. In this course on conjunctions we concentrate on that relationship between clauses.

From a grammatical point of view there are two types of conjunctions:

  • co-ordinating, which link clauses of the same level
  • subordinating, which link clauses of different levels
