Introduction to prepositions
Prepositions indicate a position or relation and usually occur in front of a noun or noun group or a pronoun. The ensemble of preposition + noun (group) is referred to as prepositional phrase. They can also be part of a pronominal adverb. Examples are: in (‘in’), op (‘on’), door (‘through’), tussen (‘between’), met (‘with’), tegen (‘against’), etc.
